My brothers met! It was an emotional moment. Brother No 1 didn’t recognise his younger brother after the latter’s stroke. He just stood there and looked at him shocked speechless. Then, turning slightly to me, he said: “I didn’t recognise him!” Brother No 2 was calm, looking at his one-year older brother. It was so emotionally charged that my second eldest brother’s youngest son said something funny to release some of the emotion: “Ok, ok! Ok, now go and hug each other just like in the Indian movies!”
There was no hug but brother No 2 extended his unaffected right hand in a handshake, a line of silent tears rolling down his left cheek. The older brother took the hand, and then both were led to the dining table where they sat next to each other looking at each other but not saying a word!
It was the first time in my life that I saw how strong brothers’ bond is. These two were very close to each other. And, no matter what were his circumstances, the elder one always knew at the back of his mind that his younger brother was always there for him. Now, I think, he realised that his brother could not be there for him.
Seeing this, I wondered if I did the right thing in telling him of his younger brother’s stroke and bringing him to see him — after 1 1/2 years! But, praying about it, I just sensed that both would be ok and that a time would come when Brother No 2 would be able to make a trip to visit his older brother at the home and that he would be able to walk unaided to meet with him.
God is great! I look forward to seeing that happen! That’s my prayer!
